“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
― Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad/Roughing It

It seems that there are a few universal human truths: we all want to fall in love, to be happy, and to travel the world. Travel is right at the top of nearly everyone’s bucket list. It’s just one of the things that we want to do as naturally curious human beings. Outside of just scratching that itch to travel, there are tons of benefits to traveling as well that you may not be aware of.

That’s right — travel is connected to numerous health benefits and greater life satisfaction, but you would never know because you’re so enthralled by travel itself and drawn to it because of the excitement and pleasure, rather than realizing any external benefits.

On the other hand, maybe you’re one of the select few individuals who aren’t interested in traveling. You’re not totally convinced you should pick up and explore the world. You may be comfortable with how your life is now and the way you see the world. But the beauty in travel is that it unlocks other ways of life that you didn’t know existed.

Traveling is like when you have only been working out on the machines at the gym, and then somebody introduces you to CrossFit or free weights.

It works your muscles in completely different angles, making them stronger and able to conquer the next workout with ease.

By traveling, you’re exercising the most important “muscle” in your body: the brain.

For every country that you visit, every language that you grapple with, every culture that you explore, you’re expanding those neurons and creating connections so that you can handle a variety of situations and cruise over unexpected bumps in the road.
